I arrived at Blizzard well into the Diablo 4 project. As a late arriver, I tried to do my best to offer assistance wherever it was needed and to give the team the extra support needed to ship the game. This feature was added last minute from narrative. Everyone was busy polishing other features so I took ownership of the feature- “Bookends.” They were small narrative vignettes at the end of each mission that would play voiceover along with some cinematic cameras that were populated with NPCs. We used an existing library of animations to bring the vignettes to life.
I was new to their engine, but was able to pickup proprietary tools quickly and hit the ground running. I made sure dialogue was timed correctly, camera animations were firing and also that the animations were playing on the NPCs in each shot.
I even did a bit of lighting work which was new to me but found it to be very rewarding!
